We have two apartments available for rent. Very comfortable apartments within Las Ramblas golf estate, one is 100m from the clubhouse, the other 500m. Las Ramblas is in the Villamartin area, Orihuela Costa - popularly known as the Costa Blanca. Costa Blanca is acknowledged as having the healthiest climate in Europe with the highest average sunshine hours in Spain. The estate is 5 minute drive from the beautiful beaches of the Costa Blanca, but at the same time being in a golf community is not overrun by package tourists. This makes it suitable for families, naturally for those who enjoy golf. The estate was built by Quara, who run the Las Ramblas golf course, Villamartin golf course and La Finca golf course. In addition the Royal golf club of Campoamor is adjoining and Las Colinas is less than 10 minutes drive away.
The apartment has wonderful views over the golf course from the lounge and balcony and views also from the rear of the building. The apartment comprises a comfortably furnished lounge dining room with air-conditioning, marble floors, leather swivel recliner chairs and lounge, TV and DVD player and stereo, sofa and dining table for four. There is an open american style kitchen, laundry alcove, 2 bathrooms (1 ensuite) and 2 bedrooms. Club de Golf Las Ramblas de Orihuela is 5900m in length (5800m from yellow) and a unique and challenging layout due it use of the natural terrain. The course designer was awarded a special prize for its architecture and use of the natural cliffs, gullies (the 'ramblas'), undulations and trees throughout the landscape.
There are many breathtaking views and interesting holes, notably from the 3rd to 9th. The tees often start high on the hillside and cross gullies and creeks on their way to the fast and true greens. Playing the course requires reasonable accuracy off the tee to avoid the natural hazards but not long driving. Good iron play is rewarded. Course condition is normally excellent.
To add to the enjoyment, the course is home to many red squirrels, which are seen all over the course. Fortunately they don't collect golf balls, so don't blame them if you can't find your ball - it is more likely in that gully you hoped to avoid. There is usually the possibility to buy some balls cheaply early in the round.
Costa Blanca and the area Orihulea Costa lies south of Alicante - the main airport for the area. From Alicante to Las Ramblas takes about 45 minutes by car on the AP7, passing Torrevieja on the way. There is also Murcia airport even closer at 25 minutes drive south of Las Ramblas in the province of Murcia and the Costa Calida.
Las Ramblas golf lies within the Dehesa de Campoamor - Villamartin area. Villamartin's famous plaza provides a wide mix of bars, cafés and restaurants to suit all tastes. See video on the Villamartin link. The residential development on Las Ramblas is high class with luxurious apartments, villas and houses all built to a high quality standard by Quara, still operating without the financial troubles suffered by most developers in Spain. The estate is considered the best in the area as it is located within the golf course and so separated from the other more populous areas of Campoamor - Villamartin.
Four championship courses are within a 5 minute drive, including Las Ramblas and Villamartin, a frequent venue for the Mediterranean Open.
The Real club de golf Campoamor is next door, and is set amongst palm and pine trees . The very highly rated new course of Las Colinas, run by Troon golf is less than 10 minutes drive away.
There are over 20 golf courses within 15 - 45 minutes drive, including 6 Nicklaus golf courses in Murcia area, La Finca, and 3 at La Manga, so golfers have a wide selection of great courses to play. See the maps for the courses in the area of Torrevieja and Murcia, and then there are also courses in the Alicante area within an hours drive.
You can play golf every day for 3 weeks and never play the same course twice!
There are numerous beaches, Dehesa de Campoamor - Playa Flamenca being considered one of the finest in Spain, just 5 minutes drive south of Las Ramblas, with many more too numerous to mention.
The Orihuela region, with its many museums, churches, and historic buildings, is well worth a visit. The old part of the town of Orihuela was declared a historic-artistic and monumental area in 1969. There are many noble buildings, six of which are declared Cultural Heritage sites.
Historical buildings and museums can also be visited in the nearby cities of Murcia and Cartagena on easy day trips. Even Valencia can be visited on a day trip.
For the lovers of environmental tourism, visit the lakes of La Mata and Torrevieja for a mud bath. These baths are renowned internationally for their curative properties.
Torrevieja, boasts a marina, waterfront market, street entertainment, shops, numerous cafes, bistros, restaurants, bars, and a beautiful church square. The superb palm-lined promenade and harbour boardwalk are the ideal place to go for an evening stroll.
Rio Safari at Elche is a mix between a zoo, a safari park and a community farm, it is even more appealing if you have young children with you. Located conveniently on the road from Santa Pola to Elche (CV-865) it is well signposted and easy to find. Before making the trip it could be well worth your while to visit your local tourist office as there are usually vouchers to be found or even "children go free" vouchers.
In addition there are scenic drives along the Costa Blanca and Costa Calida, Mar Menor and La Manga, as well as heading inland to the more mountainous areas.
The Costa Blanca enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with cool sea breezes in summer and protection by surrounding mountains against the cold north winds in winter. The area averages nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine each year and the average temperature easily exceeds 20 degrees.
In 1986 the World Health Organisation recommended the climate of the area as one of the most equitable in the world - neither too hot in the summer nor too cold in the winter. On average it can boast 325 sunny days each year making it an ideal all year round destination.
